At the Town of Leakesville, we’re focused on building a stronger, safer, and more connected community. Below are the major projects currently underway to improve infrastructure and quality of life for our residents.
Jernigan Road Water Line Extension
Location: Jernigan Road & Roland Brewer Road
Purpose: To extend public water access to over 100 homes currently relying on private wells.
Details: A new 6-inch water main is being installed to serve residents along Jernigan Road and Roland Brewer Road. This project will provide a consistent, clean water source and improved fire protection through the addition of fire hydrants. It’s a critical step toward public safety and future development in this area.
Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades
Location: Leakesville Lagoon
Purpose: To bring the treatment plant into compliance with Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) standards.
Details: Significant upgrades are underway to address long-standing compliance issues. These improvements will enhance water quality and system performance, protecting the environment and helping to support future residential and commercial growth.
Sidewalk & Pedestrian Improvements
– Phase I
Location: Main Street and South Front Street Area
Purpose: To increase walkability, accessibility, and drainage in key public areas.
Details: Phase I includes replacing damaged sidewalks, improving driveway connections, and enhancing drainage systems. These updates will make the area safer for pedestrians, including seniors, children, and those using mobility aids. Future phases aim to extend these improvements throughout town.
Bear Creek Park Walking Trail Expansion
Location: Bear Creek Park
Purpose: To promote health, recreation, and family-friendly outdoor spaces.
Details: This project will expand the current walking trail at Bear Creek Park, offering more space for exercise and enjoyment. It reflects our commitment to wellness and providing meaningful recreational spaces for the entire community.
