City of Leakesville Announces Public Hearing on Proposed Municipal Street Name Changes

LEAKESVILLE, MISSISSIPPI — August 18, 2026

The City of Leakesville will hold a public hearing regarding a proposed ordinance to rename specific portions of Paulding Road and Paulding Drive. The hearing will take place during the regularly scheduled meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. in the Board Room at Leakesville City Hall.

The purpose of the public hearing is to provide interested citizens and property owners an opportunity to comment on the proposed street name changes and express support or opposition to the proposed ordinance.

The proposed changes are intended to follow generally accepted E-911 street naming guidelines and help reduce geographical confusion for first responders, utility providers, and the general public.

The proposed ordinance would rename the following portions of municipal streets:

• Paulding Road: The portion beginning at the intersection of Oak Street, Lafayette Avenue, and Jasper Avenue and extending to its terminus, approximately 2,700 feet. Names being considered include Historic Paulding Road, Original Paulding Road, or Old Paulding Road.

• Paulding Drive: The portion beginning at its intersection with Paulding Road and extending to its terminus at Bay Avenue, approximately 475 feet, would be renamed Old Paulding Pass.

• Paulding Road: The portion beginning at its intersection with Old Avera Road and extending to the municipal boundary of the City of Leakesville, approximately 2,600 feet, would be renamed North Paulding Road.

The names listed above are currently being considered and have not yet been finalized. As the City considers these changes, the process also provides an opportunity to recognize the history and character of Leakesville while addressing the practical needs of the community.

Residents and property owners who wish to speak in support of or opposition to the proposed street name changes are encouraged to attend the public hearing.

Written comments may also be submitted to the City Clerk prior to the date and time of the hearing. A complete copy of the proposed ordinance is available for public inspection during normal business hours at the Office of the City Clerk at Leakesville City Hall.
